Pakistan’s first big test against Sri Lanka

The match against Sri Lanka is going to be the first big challenge for Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup cricket tournament. They will face the islanders on 15 March 2012 (Thursday). It is scheduled to begin at 08:00 GMT (14:00 local time) at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

It is going to be the second match for Pakistan. In their first match against Bangladesh, they defeated the host nation by 21-run. It was a closely contested match between these two teams. However, Bangladesh had the highest possibility to win the match.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka started their Asia Cup campaign with a defeat against India. After coming to chase a mammoth total of 305, Sri Lanka got all out for 254 and lost the match by 50 runs.

No doubt, both Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face each other with a hope of winning the match. Cricket fans will also see a tough competition between them.

Compared to Pakistan, Sri Lankan players will be looking tired as they recently CB series in Australia and did not get much time to revive themselves before taking part in the four-nation tournament.

Pakistan will be much stronger on pen and paper. They have strong batting line-up to boast off and they have destructive all-rounder, Shahid Afridi, who can change the game any time.

Their spin bowler Saeed Ajmal can create big havoc with the ball. Umar Gul is in good form. He played well in the first match and is expected to continue his form. What seems big problem for Pakistan cricket team is that they are not consistent.

It seems that Sri Lankan cricket team will have to give much attention on their bowling attack. Their bowlers against India looked ordinary and not effective. If they want to win the match then they will have to bring some change in the squad.

Pace spearhead, Lasith Malinga, may be selected for the match against Pakistan. However, they are missing the absence of their two attacking all-rounders- Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera. Both of them have not been selected for their injuries.

Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup title fourth times. Now, they will try hard to win this title fifth times. Let’s see if they can keep their hope alive of winning the title once again.
