The
on-going ODI series between Bangladesh and India will play a very important
role in the development of the position in the Reliance ICC ODI Team Rankings. Both
teams are trying their best to secure their position in the 2017 ICC Champions
Trophy.
Host
England and the seven highest-ranked
teams on the Reliance ICC ODI Team Rankings as on 30 September 2015 will
participate in this tournament which will be played between June 1 and June 19 in
England and Wales.
Bangladesh
is in eighth position with 88 points. Despite having the same points, West
Indies is just above Bangladesh. Having one point less than Bangladesh, they
are sitting in ninth spot. If Bangladesh can whitewash India in the three-match
ODI series, they will move to 96 points. If the host can finish the series with
2-1 then their points will be 93. Even if they lose the series 2-1, they can
easily overcome the West Indies and secure the seventh position by a fraction
of point.
India
is now in second position. They are just 12 points behind the leader Australia.
If they can win all three ODIs then they can reduce the gap between them. If it
happens then Bangladesh will slip to ninth position.
If
India wins the series 2-1, they will remain on 117 points. If they lose the
series 2-1, they will level New Zealand on 115 points, but will be ranked above
them.
However,
Bangladesh will compete with the West Indies and Pakistan in the ODI Team
rankings. If they can secure their position among the top seven sides then they
will be able to play the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
