Afghanistan is the 12th team in ICC ODI rankings

After getting a victory against Bangladesh, which was their first victory against any Test-playing nation, in the on-going Asia Cup tournament, Afghanistan has been ranked twelfth ODI team in the ICC one-day ranking with 32 rating points. They are behind Ireland and the Test playing countries. If they can manage another victory in the five-nation tournament then they will replace Ireland on the table.
For an Associate Member, the criteria of gaining promotion to the main rankings table are either getting victory in two ODI matches against Full Members or getting one win against a Full Member and have a winning percentage of over 60% against other Associate Members in the qualifying period. Afghanistan has met the second criterion. Not only that, but also a team will have to play at least eight matches in the qualifying period to get a ranking. Since August 2010, Afghanistan has so far played 12 ODIs.
Afghanistan cricket team is improving. Their performance in the on-going tournament is satisfactory. Despite not being considered as a tough opponent, they could able to put pressure on the opponent in each game they played so far.
