Bangladesh will be the host of 2014 Asia Cup cricket
tournament. They are going to hold this prestigious tournament for the second
time in a row. It is likely to be held from February 24 to March 8. The dates
have not been finalized yet.
However, India was supposed to host the 2014 edition but due to
their packed international schedule they will be unable to organize the
tournament.
This decision was taken in
a meeting organized by Asian Cricket Council members on April 8 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this meeting India informed the other ACC members about their trying
to finalize the itinerary for the New Zealand tour, scheduled to be held in February-March next
year.
Bangladesh’s decision to host the 2014 Asia Cup will affect
their international schedule. In order to host the tournament, they will have
to postpone the scheduled tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
It is expected that the
dates of the tournament could be changed again as the BCCI has been trying to
convince New Zealand Cricket to trim the schedule to two Tests, two ODIs and
two T20Is, which will enable India to compete in the Asia Cup.
According to ICC’s Future
Tours Programme (FTP), India is scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and a
single Twenty20 international.
