Bangladeshi all-rounder, Shakib
Al Hasan, has become the highest bidding player in the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after being acquired by Dhaka
Gladiators for $365,000.
However, the amount Shakib
Al Hasan has been sold
for is nearly half of what Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi had been sold for in the
inaugural season of the Bangladesh Premier League in February last year.
Pakistani opener Imran
Nazir was the second highest buy in the tournament. He was bought for $280,000
by Chittagong Kings. Shahid Afridi who was the most valuable player in the
inaugural season, was sold for $275,000. According to Channel 9 which telecast
the auction live, it has been come to know that more than a dozen foreign
players were sold for over $100,000.
Bangladesh’s young promising cricket star, Nasir Hossain, has
been bought for $208,000 by Sylhet Royals. However, this cricket star has
questioned whether he would be paid the amount.
Last year, he was
auctioned off for $200,000 and became the highest paid among the local players,
but still he was not paid his dues. He told Bengali daily newspaper, Prothom
Alo, “If I am sold at two taka (local currency), please give me that two taka,
not one taka.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board
(BCB) received a threat from the Federation of International Cricketers'
Association (FICA) over the matter of BPL’s unpaid wages.
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is made following the
popularity of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
