India needs 5-0 win to become top ranked team in ICC ODI ranking

The upcoming five-match ODI series against England is going to be a big opportunity for team India to regain their top position in the ICC ODI ranking. For that, they will have to win the series with a 5-0 margin. It means Indian cricket team will have to whitewash their opponent team. The ODI series will start on 11 January in Rajkot.
Currently, India is ranked third. If they defeat England in all the matches then they will move two places up to claim the top spot. It is obviously a big challenge for England to hold their top position in the ODI ranking. They will look carry their momentum in the ODI format after winning the Test series 2-1 in India after 28 years.
For England, they will have to win the series to maintain their top position in the ODI ranking. It will not be an easy task because India is always a strong opponent at home.
South Africa, who is the second-ranked ODI team, is the nearest rival in the race of becoming the number. South Africa will take on New Zealand in a three-match one-day international series starting on January 19 in Paarl. If they can win all the matches against New Zealand then they will go top.
South Africa’s hope of reaching at the top of the table will depend on India’s performance against England. If India wins the series but fails to complete a clear sweep then South Africa will have the highest possibility of becoming the number one team in ODI ranking.
But if England wins the series then there will be no impact of the results of the South Africa-New Zealand and Australia-Sri Lanka series.
