Ahead of the unofficial Twenty20 tri-series in Zimbabwe in
June, the South Africa cricket team selectors have recalled the middle order
batsman, Faf du Plessis, in a 15-man squad. The Highveld Lions all-rounder, Chris
Morris, is perhaps going to make his international debut with this tri-nation
series.
Senior players like AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, and the
fast-bowling pair of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel have been stored
up for the upcoming series against England. These four players played
extensively during the recently concluded IPL 2012. However, the young-studded
South Africa team will be led by Johan Botha.
The 27-year-old Du Plessis made his debut in 2011 and since
making his debut he has so far played 21 ODI matches for South Africa. He has
never been part of the T20 squad. After showing good performance for Chennai
Super Kings in IPL 2012, he has made his inclusion in the shortest format. Although
he finished 13th in the batting charts, he was given the orange cap for
his contribution with the bat. He scored three half-centuries in the
tournament.
Chris Morris has caught the attention of selectors showing
his all-rounder performance. With the bat he has scored two half-centuries and
took 23 wickets at an average of 26.00 in the first-class competition. Taking
21 wickets, he became the leading bowler overall in the Miway T20 competition.
The tri-nation T20 series also features Bangladesh and
Zimbabwe.
