IPL 2012 Auction: Enjoy Live on SET MAX

The fifth season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to be held soon. Ahead of the IPL 2012, the first auction took place today (4th February 2012). Except Pune Warriors, this auction saw nine teams taking part for bidding at the ITC Royal Gardenia Hotel.

So far the Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, was the most valuable player in the IPL auction for season five. He was sold for a whopping $ 2 million to the Chennai Super Kings.

Taken by Kolkata Knight Riders for $ 900,000, New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman, Brendon McCullum, became the first player to be sold in the auction. He started his IPL career with the same franchise in the inaugural season.

Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene was the second highest sold player in the auction. He was sold for $1.4 million by Delhi Daredevils. His fellow teammate, Muttiah Muralitharan, was bought by the Royal Challenges Bangalore for $2,20,000.

Franchises did not show any interest to England fast bowler, James Anderson, who remained unsold in the first round of the auction.

Ahead of the auction, Sahara India withdrew its sponsorship of the Indian cricket team and Pune Warriors on Saturday.

According to Rajiv Shukla, the chairman and commissioner of the league, the season five of the IPL will introduce some innovative ideas that will glitter the tournament.

IPL 2012 auction is now shown live on SET MAX.
