Former Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, will not play in the second Test match against Sri Lanka that will start from 16th September 2011. This match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The reason of flying to Australia is to be with his pregnant wife Rianna. Now, his wife is expecting to give birth to their second child. It is thought that his wife will give birth to a child within this week.
However, he will join the team soon after the birth of his second child. He will play in the third and final test match.
Ponting will be replaced by Shaun Marsh. Shaun Marsh has not yet played any test match yet. So, it is sure that Ricky Ponting’s departure will help him making his test debut.
It is almost certain that he will bat at number six spot while Usman Khawaja will move to three.
