Kolkata Knight Riders gets 10-run victory over Chennai Super Kings by D/L method

Chennai Super Kings failed to continue their winning streak as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs in a rain affected match. The defending champion saw their first defeat after their four consecutive victories.

With this victory, KKR is hoping to play in the semi-final round in this cash-rich tournament for the first time.

This victory helped Kolkata to be one of the second top ranked teams in the IPL point table with 14 points from 11 matches. Beating Delhi Daredevils by 32 runs, Mumbai Indians regained their top position once again.

Before the match called off due to rain, Kolkata Knight Riders could score 61-2 in 10 overs after coming to chase 115 at the Eden Garden. Kolkata Knight Riders was declared winner on the D/L method as they scored more runs in 10 overs compared to their opponent.

After losing Eoin Morgan for 5 and Gautam Gambhir for 16, KKR were fuelled by South African Jacques Kallis and in-form Manoj Tiwary as they scored respectively 21 and 15. Both the wickets were taken by offspinner, Ravichandran Ashwin.

CSK won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 114 for 4 after the match was delayed by an hour due to rain. Subramaniam Badrinath played an important innings of 41-ball 54 on a low and slow pitch that led the touring team pass 100 runs. Both Badrinath and Albie Morkel contributed 65 runs in the fourth wicket stand.

Kolkata left-arm spinner, Iqbal Abdulla, was declared man of the match for his superb bowling line up. Bowling 4 overs, he took 1 wicket for giving 15 runs.
