Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar go up to the ICC ODI ranking

The most important news in the ongoing ICC World Cup is perhaps the rise of Indian batsmen Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Because of their performance in the first two World Cup matches against Bangladesh and England, they went up to fifth and tenth position respectively in the ICC ODI rankings.

In the opening match against Bangladesh that was held on February 19 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Virender Sehwag played an aggressive innings of 175 off 140 balls. His big innings helped India to make a big chasing score against one of the co-hosts Bangladesh.

On the other hand, Sachin Tendulkar scored 120 runs from 115 balls including 10 fours and 5 sixes. It was his 51st ODI century that came against strong England team on 27 February at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.

Except these two players, English captain, Andrew Strauss, Bangladeshi opener, Tamim Iqbal, Pakistan duo, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Younus Khan saw their improvement in the rankings.

Not only batsmen but also Indian bowlers are progressing in the bowling list. Zaheer Khan has improved nine places to number 14th in the ICC ODI bowling list. Both Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel also saw big jump in the bowling rankings. Harbhajan Singh moved four places to number 16th while Munaf Patel moved 11 places to number 22nd in the rankings.

In the ICC all-rounder rankings, there is only one change and that is Ten Doeschate. He has improved his position four places to career best fifth in the all-rounder rankings. However, other four players have remained unchanged in the list which is leading by Shakib Al Hasan.
