Arsenal Linked with Reina and Pepe: Is it Possible?

Reports availbale in the media suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is currently monitoring Liverpool custodian Pepe Reina and Real Madrid defender Pepe. Some even went this far by claiming that Wenger had aready made an offer worth £25 million for the 27-year-old Real Madrid center back who is now reluctant to renew his current contract that expires at the end of this season unless Real Madrid doubles his wage.

Arsenal has been short on an established keeper and defender from the beginning of this season. Though Wenger signed two center backs last summer, Arsenal is suffering on the backline due to a nunber of injury problems among which most notable is Thomas Vermaelen’s long term injury.

The Gunners goalkeepers also suffered a lot due to injury. First, Almunia was sidelined and then Fabianski suffered a major injury. Now, third-choice custodian Wojciech Szczesny is doing the job with another goalkeeper Vito Mannone currently being loaned at Hull City.

Still, Arsene Wenger did not try to splash out cash in the January transfer window. So, linking Wenger with the likes of Reina and Pepe seems to only possible in an imazinary world because signing these two players would require Wenger to break Arsenal’s transfer record.
