Australian middle order batsman Michael Hussey is now facing uncertainty to take part in the upcoming 2011 ICC World Cup beginning from 19th February.
Recently, he underwent hamstring surgery that made him unavailable for the biggest cricket event. He had torn his left knee’s hamstring tendon during the opening ODI match of the 7-match ODI series against England.
During the time of match, it was thought not to be a major injury, but scan showed that he had torn one of the hamstring tendons from the attachment point at inner side of his knee.
Despite his uncertainty, he was picked in the 15-man Australian squad. Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, announced that the final decision about Michael Hussey would be taken as last as possible before the start of the World Cup hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Due to the surgery, Hussey could not play the rest of the six ODI matches and he has no possibility to be fit before six weeks.
Shaun Marsh has replaced him for the ongoing 7-match ODI series.
The good news for Australian cricket team is that Ricky Ponting is becoming fit and he is hopeful about his playing in the world cup. Ricky Ponting broke his finger during Ashes Test.
Australia will be put under huge pressure if Michael Hussey fails to become fit early. He is one of the most experienced players in the Australian squad. Even, he is expected to play well in slow wickets.
Defending champion Australia will start their campaign against Zimbabwe on February 21. They are the highest time world cup winner and hoping to defend the title once again.
