Brian Lara choose India as ICC World Cup favorite

Brian Lara has chosen India as hot favorite to win the ICC World Cup 2011 starting from 19th February 2011. He has also stated that playing in home ground will be a problem for the one of the co-host nations as India is crazy about cricket.

When Indian cricket team plays any match on home ground then stadium is filled with Indian supporters. Even, it becomes difficult to get a match ticket also. Supporters always have great expectation about their national cricket team.

The reason of choosing India as a hot favorite to win the prestigious cricket title was India’s good form in both Test and ODI format of cricket game. Indian cricket team is now holding the top position in the ICC Test team ranking for long time. In the ICC ODI team ranking, they are pursuing Australia placing 2nd position. Australia is still dominating the ODI ranking.

Brian Lara said that as World Cup was being held in Asia, India would be absolutely the favorite. He also said that as India was at their best form, it would not be an easy task for other teams to beat them.

According to the former West Indian batsman, Indian has a well-balanced squad which can compete with anyone in the world. Though India is always strong team in their home ground and their players are expert to play in slow wickets, playing in front of home fans will be a big trouble for them.

No doubt, the target of Indian cricket team will be to bring the world back in India again. They won the world cup once in 1983 and they went closer to win in 2003 but they were beaten by Australia in the final match. Indias performance in the 2007 World Cup was worst as they dropped out from the first round.

Except India, South Africa has the most possibility to win the title in South Asian subcontinent. Despite being rated as hot favorite team in all cricket tournament, they could not win the title. They need to come out from their bad luck.

South Africa could reach to the semi-final round in 1992 and 2007. Both times, they lost to Australia. It is the time to see if they can go further and play in the final round or not.
