Sony’s PSP Video Games has an Edge over Nintendo’s Wii Video Games in Japan

Sony Corp.'s PSP handheld video games hold an edge over its closest rival Nintendo Co.'s Wii home video game in Japanese market. According to Media Create Co, Wii sold 48,796 units in a seven day span starting from April 21 to April 27. However, Sony’s PSP handheld video games surpassed Wii and sold 92,411 units.

However, Nintendo has seen excellent response for its newly launched Mario Kart Wii, which has become the top selling games of the week.

Punchjump reported:

Mario Kart Wii ranked as the No. 1 top-selling title for the week, moving 151,918 units. Capcom Co.'s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G held the No. 2 rank at 92,656 units sold.

Nintendo this week released Mario Kart Wii to U.S. retail. The SKU includes a new Wii Wheel peripheral for wireless racing action.

According to NPD Group Inc., Wii has sold 720,000 units in March and it was highest among the video games hardware in the U.S. market. So, though Nintendo is still a way behind Sony’s PSP handheld games, it has a strong presence in U.S. market. Its latest release Mario Kart Wii seems to have worked well for the company. Now, let us see if Nintendo continues its success in the coming month. However, Sony’s PSP has posed a real threat for the company. So, it would also be interested to see if Sony can continue its excellent performance in Japan.
