Ravi
Shastri has been retained as director of the Indian cricket team for the
upcoming tour of Bangladesh which is scheduled to kick off on June 10 with
one-off Test match in Fatullah. Sanjay Bangar (Batting), Bharat Arun (Bowling)
and R Sridhar (Fielding) have also been named as assistant coaches for the
tour. Duncan Fletcher is the only name that is missing from India’s coaching
stuff from the World Cup. Fletcher’s tenure as coach had ended earlier this
year after the World Cup.
Ravi
Shastri’s appointment as director has been announced by the BCCI secretary Anurag
Thakur. He was given the responsibility of director during the tour of
Australia and the subsequent World Cup earlier this year.
He
has been appointed
for the short tour as the BCCI has continued its search for a new permanent
coach to succeed Duncan Fletcher. It is thought that he is looking for a
long-term position either as head coach or team director.
This
tour series is going to be a big challenge for Shastri and other three
assistant coaches. Under their guidance, the Indian cricket team did not
perform well. It is time to see if India can do well against Bangladesh or not.
