Australia’s
left-arm fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, has gained the top position of the Reliance
ICC Player Rankings for ODI Bowlers because of his good performance in the ICC
Cricket World Cup 2015 that also earned him the player of the tournament award.
The
25-year-old player finished the tournament with 22 wickets, including two for
20 in 8 overs in the final against New Zealand. With this performance, he has claimed
the number one position for the first time in his career. He along with New
Zealand’s Trent Boult became the leading wicket taker.
Before the
start of the tournament, Starc was in the seventh position. However, he gained
147 rating points during the course of the tournament. He achieved the position
with his career best 783 rating points.
He is
followed by South Africa’s wrist spinner Imran Tahir who has finished the
tournament in a career-best second position. He claimed 15 wickets from 8
matches which helped him to jump nine places from 11th position.
The excellent
performance in the World Cup has helped Trent Boult to jump nine places to
claim his career-high sixth position which he shares along with Australia’s
Mitchell Johnson who has moved up by two places.
