Cricket Australia upgrades Usman Khawaja’s central playing contract

The Pakistan-born left-handed batsman, Usman Khawaja, is one of the three players who has seen his central playing contract upgrade by Cricket Australia. Other two players on the CA contract list are Chris Rogers and Steve Smith.
The 26-year-old batsman has been upgraded for the 2013/14 season after playing three or more Test matches since July 1 this year. This indicates that he is able to earn more money than his state contract offer. Before this upgrade, he was facing a challenge to keep his place in the Australia team.
After being promoted to the Australia batting order at number three in the current Ashes series, he struggle with the bat has started. Playing six innings, he could score only 114 runs at an average of 19 against England in the ongoing Ashes series.
Since making his debut over 18 months ago, he has so far played nine Test matches and scored 377 runs at an average of 25.13 with two fifties.
