Murphy Enterprises sends Barfi! team a legal notice

Due to legal issue there is uncertainty about the release of the film Barfi!. It seems that the release date of the film might have been changed. The producers of the film UTV Motion Pictures and Ishana Films have received a legal notice for infringing the copyrights from Murphy Enterprises, a Mumbai-based company.
According to different reports, Barfi team has infringed the copyrights of their registered trademarks without obtaining a NOC.
In their legal notice they informed about their 32 trademarks which is under several classes. They also mentioned that if the film makers did not take the notice seriously then they would file a legal suit against the producers, thus bringing a stay on the movie release, or further perusal claiming damages worth Rs. 50 crore.
Mainly they have objected about the song titled Ala Barfi. The lyrics of this song are “Barfi jo amma ji ki kokh mein tha soya/ Amma ne murphy ka radio mangaya/ barfi munna jaisa lalla/ amma ka tha sapna/ Munna jab haule haule duniya mein aaya/ Baba ne Ceylon wala station lagaya/ Radio on hua, amma off hui/ Toota har sapna.”
Surjeet Kurup, the lawyer of the company, thinks that the title song of the film is not only a violation of copyright.
Let’s see what happens next.
The release date of Barfi! is 14 September 2012. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz in the lead roles.
