Maqbool Fida Hussain died: A big loss for a nation

The death news of legendary Indian painter, Maqbool Fida Hussain, came as a great shock to many of his fans not only in India but also across the world. It was a great loss for a nation.

When he left his last breath at the Royal Brompton hospital in London, he was 95-year-old. His death news was confirmed by his lawyer, Akhil Sibal.

Maqbool Fida Hussain was formerly known as M.F. Hussain. He started his career as a movie billboard artist in Bollywood. He rose to prominence because of creating nude images of Hindu icons.

He brought huge criticisms and received a death threats from hard-line Hindu for a nude painting of a woman shaped like India’s map and it forced him going into self-imposed exile. The main reason of his being criticized was that he was Muslim.

He was not only a famous painter but also a great filmmaker. He used to finance his own film. He started his filmmaking career in 1967 with Through the Eyes of a Painter. After that he made many hit films.

Famous Indian celebrities like lyricist, Javed Akhtar, actress, Shabana Azmi, showed, filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur, and some other showed grief and paid tribute to him.
