India will face Pakistan in Semi-Final match after beating Australia by 5 wickets

After beating defending champion Australia by 5 wickets at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad, one of the co-host countries, India, has ensued their place in the semi-final round against their arch-rival Pakistan. With the hope of playing in the final round, they will take on their old foe Pakistan on 30 March 2011 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Punjab.

Australia failed to hold the trophy for the fourth time in the limited-over cricket game. However, Australian skipper, Ricky Ponting, is unhappy for his team’s failure to defend the trophy once again. Ricky Ponting also played his last World Cup this year.

Indian middle order batsman, Yuvraj Singh, is the hero who led his team successfully to a thrilling semi-final. It has become important to mention the name of Suresh Raina who gave support to Yuvraj Singh to achieve the victory with 14 balls remaining at hand. These two batsmen played an important role in the sixth wicket stand. They shared 74-run partnership. Both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina remained not out on 57 and 34 respectively.

No doubt, both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina were behind India’s victory but Sachin Tendulkar made the work easier as he scored 68-ball 53 including 7 fours.

Brett Lee, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson and David Hussey took one wicket each.

Winning the toss, Australia chose to bat first. In their limited over, they could score 260 for the loss of 6 wickets. This match has significant role for Ponting as he could score a century more than a year later. Brad Haddin also played well in the as he scored 53 runs.

Yuvraj Singh showed his all rounder performance taking two important wickets with the ball. Other four wickets were shared between Ravichandran Ashwin and Zaheer Khan. They got two wickets each.

Now, fans are eagerly waiting to see an exciting semi-final match between India and Pakistan. No doubt, it is going to be a nail biting match for the fans of both teams. Both India and Pakistan won world cup once and they have equal chance of winning the match.
