Railway budget 2011: No increase in train fares

On February 25, 2011, India Railways announced Railway Budget for 2011-2012. Mamata Banerjee, Indian Railways Minister announced the budget.

The good news is railways did not increase railway fare. The Minister also announced of introducing new trains. This will include nine Duronto trains and three Shatabdi trains. Three new Shatabdi trains will be introduced on Pune-Secunderabad, Jaipur- Agra and Ludhiana-Delhi routes.

Booking charges for A/C and non A/C seats have been reduced by 50 percent and online ticketing system will be made cheaper. Physically challenged people will get special concession and Kirti and Shaurya Chakra award receivers will get concessions while traveling Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. Parents of posthumas and unmarried soldiers who received Paramvir Chakra and Ashok Chakra galanty awards will get card passes

Government is also going to introduce 200 new routes and double-decker air-conditioned train service on the Jaipur-Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai routes.
