Jamshedpur is the largest city of the state. Other major cities and industrial centers in the state are- Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribagh.

On the north of Jharkhand there is Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Chattisgarh to the west, Odisha to the south and West Bengal to the east.

The name "Jharkhand" means "The Land of Forests".
