Right time has come for Japan to write their name in the history of the Asian Cup competition as the most successful team. They have won the title thrice in the past in 1992, 2000 and 2004. Now, they are hoping to win the title for the fourth time and make a record. Except Japan, two other teams also won the title three times and they are Iran and Saudi Arabia.
To get their maiden trophy, Australia will have to face tough challenge against Japan. Their chance of winning the Asian Cup title has come in their second appearance of theis competition. They started playing the Asian Cup in 2007 as the first non-host country.
With winning the title, Australia will be looking to take revenge for their defeat in 2007 Asian Cup. In their first appearance, they were beaten by Japan in the quarter-final round on penalty shootout. If they fail to take revenge then they will also lose the hope of winning the trophy.
Both Japan and Australia are still undefeated. Now, fans are eagerly waiting to see if any of them can maintain their winning streak till the end of the tournament. Compared to Australia, Japan had to struggle hard to book their place in the final round. Japan faced South Korea in their semi-final match. The result of this match was fixed in the penalty shootout. All the credits should go to Japan goalkeeper who saved several goals and led Japan to move to final. Now, they will have to be at their best form and need to continue their consistency.
On the other hand, it can be said that Australia got much easier victory against Uzbekistan. They bet their opponent by 6-0 in another semi final match and moved into the final round. Despite their big victory, it made no difference between these two finalist teams.
Before moving to semi-final, Japan faced the host Qatar quarter-final round which they won by 3-2. Japanese player Kagawa scored two goals in this match while Inoha ensured Japan’s victory scoring an important goal 1 minute before the final whistle.
On the ther hand, Australia faced defending champion Iraq in the quarterfinal round and they successfully bet them. But it was an exciting game as Australia had to struggle hard to put a goal in Iraq’s goal post. Kewell scored the winning goal for Australia in the extra minute.
It will be interesting to see that both teams will be equally treated among the supporters and nether of them will be hot favorite. Both teams have 50-50 chance to beat each other and get the trophy.
It is also expected to see a clash between the coaches of these two teams. Australia’s coach, Holger Osieck, already said that the match against Japan will not be an easy task and they have to be at their best to get their maiden Asian Cup trophy. In his statement, he said that Japan had technically potent players. However, the has the experience of coaching Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds club. So, he has information about Japan’s players and their style of playing. The question is that if it can help his team to get benefit when they will go to face Japan in the final match.
Injury will be a major cause of concern for both teams. Borussia Dortmund star player, Shinji Kagawa, is out of the Asian Cup Final match due to his leg spinner. The 21-year-old player has broken his metatarsal bone in his right foot in the match against South Korea. He has no possibility to be fit soon. So, he will have to stay sideline when Japan will take on Australia in the final match.
It seems that Keisuke Honda will not let his team to feel the absence of Kagawa. Captain Makoto Hasebe is now at his best form. It will be a difficult task for Australia defenders to stop them.
The absence of this attacking midfielder will make Japan’s midfield much weaker. Now, Japan coach will have to find someone who can replace his position.
Australian palyer Tim Cahill’s performance in the final match against Japan is also doubtful. He is a potential player. Fans should expect that he will be fit soon and join the Socceroos. Tim Cahill’s lack of availability has become a good news for Japan. They should expect to face Australia without their key palyer.
However, good news for Australian supporters is that they can see the entire team in the final match. David Carney and Harry Kewell are fit enough to play for their team. Their inclusion will increase the strength and at the same time will increase Australia’s chance to win the title.
The main attraction of this match will be Japan’s goalkeeper, Eiji Kawashima. Japan could make their place in the final because of his heroic performance in the penalty shootout. He saved penalties and became the match savor.
