Arsene Wenger is looking for a defender on loan to fill up the absence of injured Thomas Vermaelen

It looks like that Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger will be looking for a defender on loan in the absence of Thomas Vermaelen who is currently suffering from injury. According to Arsene Wenger, singing a defender on loan will be an intelligent decision to replace the injured Belgian footballer.

The 25-year-old player was one of the key players in Arsenal football club in center back position. He could not play any match for Arsenal since August last year after picking up an injury. Though Arsenal has three other center-halves, it seems that the absence of Vermaelen has created a big void in the club.

What is clear to me is that Arsene Wenger is not interested to sign with any player as a fifth center-half. That is why, he thinks that signing a defender on loan will be the best thing to solve the problem.

He also said that the 21-year-old Mexican footballer, Carlos Vela, has the possibility to go to a Spanish club on loan.

Carlos Vela could not show his good form for Arsenal as he could score only three goals after making appearance in 13 matches in all competitions. He may go to Bolton on loan.

It has been long time he didn’t play for Arsenal. Wenger thought that Vermaelen would be recovered from injury and made his return within this month. But now Vermaelen will have to undergo surgery and he will be out of action for another six weeks.

Arsenal will play against Ipswich in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final that will be played at the Emirates Stadium on 27 January 2011. However, Arsenal will have to win the match with a huge goal margin if they want to win a trophy. They were beaten by Ipswich 1-0 in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final match.
